A solid mixer with great effects! The ZED-22 FX is the perfect center to your live rig - and it's also ready to rock in the studio. First of all, the Allen & Heath ZED-22 FX gives you all the connections you need to hook up a small band, duo, or solo performer. Thanks to the 16 mic/line channels you can connect all the mics and DI boxes you need. Plus you've got three dual stereo channels available, each with a gain and 2-band EQ control. The FX in the name, though, is what takes the cake. Here, you can get tweaky with 16 separate effects for nailing the perfect, polished live sound with the ZED-22FX.
Those guys and gals at Allen & Heath definitely know mixers. And their ZED series is super popular for a number of reasons, not the least of which because it puts first-Class A&H quality at a new affordable price point. This is a mixer your band is going to be proud to use. More than that, it sounds great. We've already mentioned a bit about the I/O capabilities, but you'll also want to know that it has four aux sends available - 1 and 2 are prefade and 3 and 4 are post fade for monitoring with effects. Here's the magic. You can send a stereo signal from the auxes via USB right to your computer, so you can create two separate record feeds that are totally independent of the main L/R mix. The ZED-22 FX is Mac and PC compatible and you've got three send/return configurations for recording, playback, and external FX. That's a lot of power. And you've got a copy of SONAR LE recording software included for free, giving you a straightforward recording solution on your PC.
Check out these effects! Allen & Heath crafted 16 separate effects into the ZED-22FX mixer, ready for any kind of live sound material you face. These effects include a number of useful delays and reverbs, including a ping-pong delay and a selection of reverbs with different room/hall/arena properties. You'll also dig the flanger and the chorus. Each effect has a parameter you can tweak to dial in your sound. Five of the effects support tap tempo, for really getting into the groove. However, unlike many other mixers with onboard effects, the ZED-22FX is first and foremost a mixer. The ZED-22FX has DuoPre preamps that sport a massive 69dB of gain, plus tons of routing options. Getting audio to and from a computer easily is now a common requirement for live sound and music production. The way this has been implemented on ZED is super-flexible and super-easy! No longer do you need to fiddle around the back of your PC to get to the soundcard inputs, only to find that the levels are all wrong and noisy. Just plug in a USB lead to your ZED, select the USB routing on the mixer and the device on your computer and that’s it! CD quality audio to and from your PC or Mac. Switches and connection through jack socket terminals provide different send/return configurations.
Based on the proven pre-amps from the hugely successful PA series, ZED-22FX has DuoPre pre-amps, which use a two stage design, with carefully controlled amounts of gain in each stage. When amplifying the signal from the XLR input, the gain range is huge – 69dB of range to be exact – and is very evenly distributed around the gain control, meaning better control of signal level. Most of the gain comes from the first stage, so unwanted noise is kept to a minimum. Line level signals are simply plugged into the second stage of the pre-amp by using the line input jack socket, which has the great advantage of less noise when using the line input and also matching to a higher input impedance.
We’ve included Cakewalk SONAR LE with this ZED mixer so you can start recording your own music today with the most complete introductory music production software for Windows PC.
