The PreSonus Eris E4.5 2-way active studio monitors give you a high-quality, high-value alternative to "computer" speakers. Eris employs a Kevlar woofer, a low-mass silk-dome tweeter, Class AB amplification, and professional acoustic-adjustment controls to deliver true studio-monitor accuracy, at a price point that's flooded with ho-hum "multimedia" speakers. And unlike comparably priced studio monitors, Eris gives you controls for flattening frequency response to facilitate accurate mixing. Need accurate monitors but don't want to break the bank? You should give the PreSonus Eris E4.5 a serious audition.
If you've read the Music Experience Studio Monitors Buying Guide, then you already know about the problems that go with putting your monitors too close to walls. That's when extreme low frequencies cause your walls to vibrate and act like big speaker cones, filling the air with false harmonics and ruining your ability to mix with accuracy. But sometimes the shape and size of your room leave you with no alternative but to place your monitors close to a wall. That's where the Eris E4.5's acoustic tuning controls come in handy. By cutting your Eris E4.5's bass by up to 6dB, you can compensate for this phenomenon, without jeopardizing your sound.
Offering up a solid 50 watts of Class AB amplification gives the PreSonus Eris E4.5 a major advantage over studio monitors that feature just enough power to get the job done. It may sound kind of technical, but the way this feature benefits you is pretty straightforward. With the Eris E4.5's gain set to unity (the U in the middle of the dial), you can comfortably monitor your mix at an appropriate level, but still have plenty of extra volume to spare so that run-away transients (momentary loud peaks) sound louder, instead of just distorting at the same relative volume. It's hard to express just how readily this easily overlooked feature of the Eris E4.5 can save your mix.
If you need to fine-tune your sound to achieve a flat frequency response, you'll find fully variable high- and low-frequency controls on the back that let you boost or cut up to 6dB in their respective ranges. What's more, PreSonus outfitted their Eris E4.5 studio monitors with unbalanced RCA as well as balanced TRS inputs, so you can connect them directly to just about any sound source in your studio. You also get an aux input for connecting your smartphone or media player and a headphone output for private listening.
The brainchild of current Chief Strategy Officer Jim Odom - a musician, producer, and LSU graduate in electrical engineering, and co-founder Brian Smith (VP of Engineering), a fellow LSU engineering graduate, PreSonus was launched in 1995 with the mission of building affordable, professional music-production tools for musicians and audio engineers. Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, PreSonus in 2014 moved into its new digs, complete with a professional recording studio and live-sound venue designed by the world-famous Walters-Storyk Design Group.
When you’re serious about creating music, you need studio monitors that will speak nothing but the truth. Eris® E4.5 studio monitors deliver a smooth and accurate frequency response so they reveal what’s really in your tracks and mixes. They also offer a suite of acoustic tuning controls to let you adjust their response for the acoustics of your room. The result: Eris monitors ensure you hear everything accurately so you can produce your best work.
Every Eris-series studio monitor utilizes a custom-woven Kevlar® low-frequency driver. The weave and nature of the Eris E4.5’s 4.5-inch Kevlar woofer result in a more constant dispersion pattern throughout the frequency range, resulting in less time-smeared audio and cleaner overall sound.
Each Eris monitor is equipped with a silk dome tweeter that produces a smooth and refined sound, accurately reproducing transients and high frequencies. The tweeter is designed to radiate sound with a fairly wide dispersion pattern, creating a large optimal listening area or “sweet spot” so you can move around and still hear everything accurately.
Today’s music producers deal with a wide variety of musical genres and often work in challenging mixing environments. That’s why Eris-series studio monitors offer extensive acoustic tuning controls. The three-position Acoustic Space switch helps to compensate for the boundary bass boost that can occur when a monitor is placed in a corner or near a wall. High and Mid controls help to further mitigate room anomalies. A Low Cutoff filter makes it easy to integrate a Temblor® T8 subwoofer into your monitor setup, allowing you to adjust the upper end of the Temblor’s range to match the lower end of your full-range speakers.
With three different types of audio inputs, it’s easy to feed audio to your Eris monitors from a mixer, an interface, a media player, or almost any other line-level source. The Eris E4.5 is equipped with stereo ¼”, 1/8”, and RCA inputs. With this selection, you’ll have no problem hooking your Eris speakers up with virtually any line-level source, including your smartphone. The Eris E4.5s are also equipped with a headphone amplifier so you can check your mix on your favorite headphones or quickly cut an overdub without repatching cables.
Like all PreSonus® studio monitors, the Eris E4.5 offers consistent, accurate listening. Their compact and powerful design makes them an ideal solution for home and professional studios alike. Their smooth and even frequency response have made Eris monitors one of the fastest growing studio monitor lines in the world. Hear them at your favorite PreSonus dealer.
