Feature Packed

The black P-255B from Yamaha is an 88-key digital piano that features the company's Pure CF Sound Engine (same engine as found on the Clavinova pianos) and a GH (Graded Hammer) keyboard that together deliver a genuine piano playing experience. Source samples were taken from Yamaha's concert grand pianos resulting in an authentic grand piano sound with dynamic bass, warm mid-range and clear highs. The instrument is housed in a slim and elegant cabinet.

          Authentic to the Tone

The piano sound reproduction features three enhancements that further support the authenticity. Key-off sampling reproduces the slight change in sound at the instant when fingers are removed from the keys with different key-off sounds produced for staccato and sostenuto playing. Sustain sampling recreates the resonance of the soundboard and strings when the damper pedal is used and is further dependent on how much the pedal is pressed down. Finally, string resonance reproduces the sound of other strings resonating when a particular note is struck.

          A Feeling that's Real

A regular grand piano uses different-sized hammers for the different-sized strings with subsequent differing weights. The GH keyboard utilizes technology to reproduce the true "feel" of a grand piano keyboard action, with heavier touch in the lower keys, lighter touch in the higher keys, and subtle gradations of weight and response throughout. Dual amplifiers drive two built-in high-performance speakers. Ideas and performances can be shared or stored utilizing an optional USB flash drive via the rear panel USB connector. And dual headphone outputs allow for quiet student/teacher lessons or for playing duets.

          What Yamaha Says...

The much-loved Yamaha P-Series is a bestseller in the field of compact, stylish digital pianos. As the latest addition to this series, the P-255 offers a more authentic piano sound and feel than ever before. Thanks to its highly portable design, this digital piano can be played in any place or setting you desire. The Yamaha P-255 contemporary digital piano is for all musicians looking for an instrument suitable for both serious practice and live performance. Thanks to its portable design and built-in speaker system, the P-255 can be played in any place or setting you desire, with or without external amplification. And with the first-of-its-kind Controller App for iOS, you can customize your piano sound or quickly adjust your favorite settings with touch-screen ease-of-use.

Piano quality to the satisfaction of even experienced pianists

Despite its slim, portable design, the P-255 offers a full range of performance capabilities. In terms of keyboard, piano voices, and sound reinforcement, this is the very best digital piano in the P-Series. Whether you’re already an expert or new to the piano, you’ll love playing this instrument.

Impressive Piano Voices Reproduce the Sensation of Playing a Concert Grand Piano

The P-255 uses the Pure CF Sound Engine to produce its piano Voices. As the only digital piano in our P-Series to feature the following three functions, the P-255 can also recreate the characteristic acoustics of the grand piano sound in a more realistic fashion. Key-off Samples- This feature reproduces the slight change in sound at the instant you remove your fingers from the keys. What’s more, different key-off sounds are produced for staccato and legato playing. Sustain Sampling- The resonance of the soundboard and strings heard when the damper pedal is used has been sampled in order to recreate this acoustic effect. The P-255 responds to how deep you depress the pedal. String Resonance- When the hammer of a grand piano strikes its string, the other strings will also resonate. The P-255 can reproduce this effect using its String Resonance feature.

Synthetic Ivory Keytops – Built to be Played

With a heavier touch in the low keys and a lighter touch in the high keys, the Graded Hammer (GH) action makes the P-255 feel and respond more like a real grand piano. Additionally, the white keys feature synthetic ivory keytops with excellent moisture absorption properties. This means that your fingers won't slip even when playing for extended periods of time.

          Meticulous Acoustic Design

The P-255’s circular speakers vibrate in a highly natural manner to produce a well-balanced tone. Thanks to this design, lower notes in particular have a much richer sound than on pianos with oval speakers. The P-255 also features built-in tweeters aimed directly at the performer, so that higher notes sound brighter. Also, the pair of 15W amps built into each P-255 can deliver a very powerful sound.

Sound can be adjusted for different playing environments

The P-255 is the only instrument from our P-Series that offers functions to conveniently customize the Voice, volume and tone settings based on the environment in which you’re playing.

Sound Boost Button Instantly Provides More Volume With Greater Presence

At the touch of a button, you can easily make the sound of the P-255 louder and enhance its presence. Does the audience have difficulty hearing your piano playing over the mix of a band or small combo? No problem. Sound Boost allows for a clear-sounding performance that will cut through any mix. This feature affects both the internal speakers and external amplification.

EQ Sliders Adjust the Sound to Your Taste or Performance Environment

The P-255 is equipped with EQ sliders—one each for the low, mid and high frequency ranges. By simply moving these sliders, you can easily adjust the digital piano‘s sound to your liking or to better suit the current song or acoustic environment. You can produce bright and shimmering tones that are clear and highly present or powerful sounds that pack a punch

Additional Features Make Live Performances More Fun

Rhythm Tracks - The P-255 comes complete with ten different rhythm patterns that are perfectly suited to pop, jazz, bossa nova and many other types of music regularly performed on the piano. This feature is perfect for singers who accompany themselves and for other live performers. Replace old metronomes with your personal, versatile drummer complete with intros and endings.

More than just a piano - In addition to piano Voices, you can enjoy playing organs, a string section, basses and a wide variety of other instrument sounds on the P-255. This digital piano also lets you change Voices to suit individual songs and to layer different sounding Voices, allowing you to explore many other interesting sounds besides the piano.

Speaker Cut-Off - When the P-255 is connected to external speakers, its built-in speakers can be conveniently muted.

Panel Lock button - The control panel can be temporarily locked to prevent settings being changed by accidentally pressing buttons while playing. This helps ensure nothing goes wrong during those important performances.

Adjustable response - The P-255 keyboard can also be set to four different sensitivity levels depending if you have a heavier or lighter playing style.

Maximum Polyphony of 256 Notes—Unsurpassed in the World of Digital Pianos

          Built-in Piano Recording Studio

The P-255 can store your performances directly on a USB flash drive as audio songs. These songs are stored in .wav format, so you can conveniently play them back on a computer, transfer them to a portable media device or upload them to share with friends online.

Conserve energy with convenient auto power off feature

Auto power off shuts down the instrument after a period of inactivity. You can customize how long it will wait before shutting down, or disable it if you prefer. To learn more about other ways that Yamaha conserves energy, visit our Corporate Social Responsibility page.
