What is Nashville/High Strung Tuning and Why is it so Cool?

Nashville tuning is a means of creating the effect of a twelve-string guitar by using a six-string guitar. Not just a tuning scheme, this method requires different strings to be used, which is why Nashville tuning is also referred to as “high-stringing” a guitar. While there are string sets available for Nashville Tuning, they are hard to find, which is what makes the D'addario EJ38H set such a gem. Generally, the octave strings from 12-string sets are used, but with the EJ38H strings which are made for Nashville tuning there is no need to throw away half of a 12-string set and hope the remaining higher octave strings are the desired gauges. The tuning scheme is as follows: The first two strings of your guitar (high E and B) remain unchanged and the lower four strings (G through low E) are tuned an octave above standard tuning. Nashville tuning particularly shines as a means of adding a shimmering texture to rhythm tracks.

Phosphor Bronze - The Go To for Tone

Pioneered in 1974 and still revered today, Phosphor Bronze has become synonymous with warm, well-balanced acoustic tone. D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings are precision wound with corrosion-resistant phosphor bronze onto a carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. The result is long-lasting, bright sounding tone with excellent intonation.

D'Addario - Making strings for over 300 years

Behind every set of D'Addario strings are over three centuries of fine craftsmanship. The D'Addario family tradition began in the tiny town of Salle, Italy in 1680 where they made assorted instrument strings for over two hundred years before relocating to New York in 1905. As the modern string making industry began to develop, the D'Addario family emerged as innovators by designing the winding machine most string makers still use today. And while their techniques have modernized, the pride that goes into each set of strings dates back to the D'Addario family's earliest roots.
