ATL is PMC’s proprietary bass-loading technology that extends low-frequency response while reducing distortion, enhancing phase and frequency linearity, and optimizing SPL capability. Powered by state-of-the-art Class D amplification and advanced acoustic engineering, the PMC 8-2 delivers a spacious soundfield with exceptional depth, clarity, imaging, and dynamic punch.

New Drivers for Improved Performance

The PMC 8-2 features two newly designed 200mm bass drivers working in tandem with ATL technology to produce significantly improved bass response that rivals many larger monitors. High frequencies are handled by the classic ScanSpeak tweeter used in PMC’s acclaimed IB1S-AIII monitor, refined and customized for enhanced performance. The midrange driver is mounted in PMC’s proprietary n-compass waveguide, optimizing dispersion to deliver coherent, linear response across a wide horizontal and vertical listening area. With its extended frequency response and relatively compact footprint, the PMC 8-2 is an ideal main monitor for mobile recording trucks and space-conscious professional environments.

Optimized Electronics, Formidable Power

The PMC 8-2 is quad-amplified by next-generation ICEPower Class D amplifiers, delivering 400 watts to each of its four drivers through a sophisticated crossover system. For installation flexibility, the XLR input is switchable between analog and digital AES. Founded as a joint venture with Bang & Olufsen in 1999, ICEPower pioneered modern Class D amplification for professional audio, offering high output, efficiency, and cool-running operation. The PMC 8-2 can also be paired with the dedicated PMC 8-2 SUB to create an XBD system, increasing low-frequency headroom and overall system performance.

Advanced Transmission Line Technology Delivers Cleaner, Deeper Bass

PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology has been a cornerstone of their monitor designs since the early 1990s. By absorbing unwanted rear radiation from low-frequency drivers and allowing only the lowest frequencies to exit through a front-baffle vent, ATL delivers extended bass response with reduced harmonic distortion and improved midrange clarity. This approach provides deeper bass and higher output from compact cabinets, while maintaining consistent low-end balance at any listening level.

Midrange clarity is critical to mixes that translate across playback systems. In addition to extending bass performance, PMC’s ATL technology minimizes port noise and suppresses problematic frequencies that can mask vital midrange detail in conventional monitor designs. The PMC8-2 can be seamlessly combined with smaller PMC speakers to create larger multi-channel or immersive systems, thanks to its consistent dispersion and tonal balance. Twin 200mm bass drivers are partnered with the PMC55 midrange driver, a precision tweeter, DSP system, and four channels of 400W Class-D amplification — the same technology used in the PMC6-2. Configuration can be done via the rear panel or the browser-based SoundAlign™ software from a computer or tablet. With its precisely tuned ATL™ cabinet and Laminair™ hexagonal vents, the PMC8-2 delivers performance approaching PMC’s main reference monitors, offering smooth bass down to 25Hz, revealing midrange, and wide, stable sound-staging. Its clarity, definition, and dynamic fidelity allow mix decisions to be made confidently without listening fatigue. The system can be upgraded with a PMC8-2 SUB to create an XBD system, increasing bass headroom by 6dB, and dedicated floor stands are available for optimal positioning.
