The AMS Neve 8803 captures the magic of classic Neve analog EQ curves and brings them into a modern rackmount format. Drawing inspiration from the legendary 8108 and flagship 88RS consoles, this dual-channel equalizer delivers unmistakable Neve tone shaping for today’s studios. Each channel features semi-parametric high and low bands with selectable shelving or bell filters and switchable Q, along with two fully parametric midbands for precise control. Flexible highpass and lowpass filters, ±20dB input trims, and individual bypass switches provide complete tonal command. Far more than a vintage reissue, the 8803 also includes USB connectivity for saving and recalling settings via your computer. Handbuilt and handwired in Burnley, England, it offers combination +4dBu/-10dBV inputs and XLR/parallel outputs for seamless integration into any professional setup.
Whether you’re adding punch and presence to drums, shaping vocals and acoustic instruments, or enhancing electric guitars with warmth and bite, the 8803 delivers authoritative results. Each channel provides four bands of equalization, including semi-parametric high and low bands and two fully parametric midbands. The high band ranges from 1.5kHz to 18kHz, while the low band spans 33Hz to 440Hz, both offering selectable shelving or bell curves with switchable Q. The high-mid band covers 0.8kHz to 9kHz, and the low-mid band ranges from 120Hz to 2kHz, each with continuously variable Q from 0.3 to 7. Dedicated highpass (30Hz–300Hz) and lowpass (3kHz–15kHz) filters with 12dB-per-octave slopes complete the toolkit, making the 8803 equally capable of subtle refinement or bold tonal shaping.
The 8803 integrates advanced features designed for contemporary workflows. Its input trim accommodates signals from -20dB to +20dB, supporting both +4dBu and -10dBV reference levels. Signal and Clip LEDs provide clear monitoring at -30dBu and above 25dBu, respectively. Independent EQ bypass switches allow you to disengage the four EQ bands per channel while keeping highpass and lowpass filters active. Combination XLR and 1/4-inch inputs accept balanced or unbalanced connections, and parallel XLR and 1/4-inch outputs ensure compatibility with a wide range of gear. A built-in USB port enables convenient recall of settings via control software on Mac or PC, combining classic analog character with modern digital efficiency.
From Rupert Neve’s early solid-state console innovations in the 1960s to the legendary 80-series and 8078 consoles that defined the sound of 1970s rock, the Neve name has long represented excellence in professional audio. Through continued innovation in series such as the VR, VX, and 88R consoles, AMS Neve has consistently advanced studio technology. The 8803 stands as a testament to this enduring legacy, delivering timeless analog tone with the flexibility demanded by modern production environments.
The 8803 Dual Channel Equaliser and Filter continues the proud tradition of Neve® processors, delivering mastering-grade performance derived directly from the celebrated 88RS console. Designed for modern producers, mixing engineers, and mastering professionals, the 8803 offers exceptional sonic purity and precise tonal control. Its electronically balanced input stage ensures maximum transparency, while independent ±20dB input trims on each channel allow accurate stereo balancing before any EQ processing is applied.
High-pass and low-pass filters are positioned before the four-band EQ and can be independently activated per channel. These filters feature continuously variable controls for smooth, musical sweeps, with the high-pass filter ranging from 25Hz to 300Hz and the low-pass filter spanning 3kHz to 15kHz at 12dB per octave. The low-frequency band covers 33Hz to 440Hz with ±18dB of gain, offering complete control from deep sub frequencies to low-mid warmth. Switchable shelving and bell curves with dual Q settings provide both broad tonal shaping and precise frequency targeting.
The fully parametric low-mid band delivers sweepable frequency, gain, and Q controls across 120Hz to 2kHz, with ±18dB of gain and bandwidth adjustment from 0.3 to 7. This flexibility allows for subtle contouring or focused corrective shaping depending on the source material. The high-mid band offers the same precision, covering 0.8kHz to 9kHz with ±18dB gain and variable Q from 0.3 to 7, making it ideal for refining vocals, instruments, and critical midrange detail.
With a sweepable high-frequency band ranging from 1.5kHz to 18kHz and ±18dB of gain, the 8803 allows you to enhance or soften the “air” and brilliance of any signal. Like the low band, it features switchable shelving and bell curves with two Q settings, enabling both wide tonal enhancements and surgical adjustments.
Parallel XLR and TRS outputs provide flexible routing options, ideal for splitting signals into multiple recording paths or building complex mastering chains. USB connectivity allows seamless integration with Neve® Recall software on PC or Mac, enabling efficient session recall. Routing and switching are automatically restored, while rotary controls are quickly aligned to stored positions. The left and right channels can be perfectly stereo matched within the software, and settings from one channel can be mirrored to the other — an invaluable feature for precision mastering applications.
