The RME MADIface USB is a powerful and flexible MADI interface designed for broadcast audio, large studio facilities, and permanent-installation environments. Featuring optical MADI connections, it allows simultaneous transmission and reception of up to 64 channels of high-quality digital audio over distances of up to 2,000 meters.
Ideal for large-scale recording and audio networking applications, the MADIface USB delivers high channel counts with exceptional reliability and ease of use. Whether capturing multitrack sessions in expansive studio spaces or distributing digital audio throughout a broadcast facility, this interface provides a streamlined and dependable solution.
The MADIface USB enables digital audio transmission over vast distances with rock-solid reliability. Depending on the selected sample rate, up to 64 simultaneous input and output channels are available, making it ideal for studios where recording spaces are located far from the control room.
By placing a MADI-equipped A/D converter in the recording area and running a single optical MADI cable to the control room, engineers can capture up to 64 channels of audio directly to a Mac or PC using the MADIface USB.
RME’s TotalMix FX software mixer provides powerful control over all inputs, outputs, and mix levels. Unlimited routing allows signals to be split and distributed to multiple outputs, while peak and RMS level metering ensures accurate gain management across large multichannel setups.
The MADIface USB can operate without a computer, making it a versatile standalone solution. It can function as a MADI repeater between MADI-equipped converters to extend transmission distances, or as a format converter between optical and coaxial MADI, offering exceptional flexibility for complex digital audio systems.
The MADIface USB is a versatile addition to any MADI system, functioning as a mixer, router, format converter, stream splitter, and signal repeater. Clock sources can be selected via MADI, AES, or Word Clock, enabling flexible system integration and redundancy for automatic failover. With the ability to create extremely low-latency mixes between optical, coaxial, and USB 2.0 audio inputs, the MADIface USB integrates seamlessly into a wide range of professional applications.
The compact MADIface USB delivers full 64-channel MADI I/O over USB 2.0 for both Mac and Windows systems. Both MADI inputs can be used for full redundancy, or optionally operated simultaneously to provide up to 128 channels of input and output routing via TotalMix. Even without a connected computer, the unit functions as a bidirectional format converter and active MADI repeater.
Its rugged, bus-powered design ensures dependable operation while remaining highly portable. Equally suited as a desktop solution or a mobile interface, the MADIface USB offers exceptional flexibility, reliability, and ease of use—hallmarks of RME engineering.
The MADIface USB offers multiple operation modes when used with Mac or Windows systems, including 64 Channel Mix, Redundancy Mode, 128 Channel Mix, and Straight Routing Mode. These modes allow the interface to adapt to complex routing, monitoring, and redundancy requirements.
The Disable TotalMix option bypasses the internal mixer and routing matrix, sending all input data directly to the recorder and returning playback signals straight to the outputs with mirrored output signals.
In 64 Channel Mix mode, TotalMix displays 64 input, playback, and output channels using a single MADI input while mirroring the signal to both MADI outputs. Automatic input selection can be enabled for seamless redundancy, allowing real-time switching between inputs in the event of signal failure.
In 128 Channel Mix mode, recording and playback remain limited to 64 channels, while TotalMix provides access to both MADI inputs and 128 independent output channels. This enables advanced workflows such as independent mix outputs, monitoring, and serial pass-through of a second MADI source.
SteadyClock technology and RME’s proven MADI compatibility ensure stable, hassle-free operation with a wide range of devices. MIDI over MADI support allows remote control of compatible MADI equipment, enhancing system integration in complex digital audio setups.
The MADIface USB includes RME’s DIGICheck software suite for comprehensive metering, testing, measurement, and analysis of digital audio streams on macOS and Windows. On macOS, advanced spectral analysis and multichannel level metering are available, while Windows users gain additional features such as multitrack recording and playback data display.
TotalMix FX provides unlimited routing and mixing capabilities, allowing the creation of independent submixes for every available output channel. This flexibility makes it an exceptionally powerful solution for both studio and live sound applications.
RME’s proprietary USB audio technology delivers ultra-low latency, exceptional stability, and long-term driver support on both Mac and PC. By developing its own interface core, RME ensures seamless compatibility with the latest operating systems without reliance on third-party solutions.
In addition to professional audio interfacing, RME provides DigiCheck as a free software tool for high-resolution audio measurement, offering precise metering and analysis to support critical monitoring and system optimization.
