On its own, the PMC 8-2 midfield monitor delivers prodigious performance that makes it an excellent main monitor for mobile recording trucks and other applications where space is at a premium but monitoring precision is essential. For larger rooms, adding a pair of PMC 8-2 SUB active subwoofers creates a seamlessly integrated XBD system. Available in left- and right-hand mirror-imaged versions, the PMC 8-2 SUB uses two of the same 200mm LF drivers as the PMC 8-2, with its audio input routed through identical filters to duplicate low-frequency content and achieve a higher maximum SPL. While the PMC 8-2 already delivers full low-frequency extension and does not benefit from a conventional subwoofer, the PMC 8-2 SUB may also be used conventionally with smaller monitors such as the PMC 6-2 or for LFE reproduction in surround systems. Offering higher maximum SPL down to 25Hz, the PMC 8-2 SUB advances the performance of the smaller PMC 8 SUB while maintaining seamless integration in immersive setups.
Matching the physical dimensions of the PMC 8-2 midfield monitor, the PMC 8-2 SUB features twin eight-inch bass drivers, each powered by its own 400W Class-D amplifier. Configuration options mirror those of the PMC 8 SUB and are accessible via rear-panel controls or through the browser-based SoundAlign™ software using a LAN-connected tablet, smartphone, or computer.
The PMC 8-2 SUB functions equally well as a standalone subwoofer for multichannel and immersive audio systems or as an XBD cabinet paired with PMC 6-2 or PMC 8-2 monitors, delivering exceptional power and dynamic range. Left- and right-handed cabinet versions (PMC 8-2 SUB-L and PMC 8-2 SUB-R) allow the bass drivers to be positioned on the outer edges of a stereo array, precisely matching the layout of the main monitors.
The PMC8 SUB is a true low-frequency reference monitor designed to extend the bass response of your speaker system, delivering PMC’s signature ultra-clean, ultra-fast low end to any setup. It can be used as a compact stand-alone subwoofer within conventional multichannel systems, or as an XBD cabinet to create a full-range PMC6 XBD midfield monitor. In XBD mode, dedicated DSP processing integrates the speakers and subwoofer into a coherent, full-range system. Thanks to PMC’s ATL™ bass-loading technology, the PMC8 SUB offers a gentler low-order LF roll-off than conventional ported designs, ensuring smooth, seamless integration in multi-channel and immersive systems.
Featuring a custom eight-inch long-throw bass driver, the PMC8 SUB is powered by a single 300W Class-D amplifier and controlled by the same advanced DSP engine used across PMC’s active range. DSP features include sophisticated room boundary EQ, parametric EQ, time delay, phase inversion, and the unique XBD mode, all configurable via the rear panel or the browser-based SoundAlign™ software.
